What to do when you're uncertain
Feb 08, 2022Hi {{first_name}},
You're getting this mail because you're one of about 80 people who clicked a button in a mail from me last week that said you'd like to know more about my programme Create Your Path as an Awakening Lawyer which starts 22 March. But...there was a GLITCH!
The problem with the buttons I put on my mail to you last week is that about 60 people clicked both buttons! So that tags you as someone who WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT THE COURSE and also DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT. What the heck? as my 5 year old likes to say (we're working on changing that!)
I had added these buttons so people could opt out of hearing about the course but not have to unsubscribe.
I don't like millions of mails. I signed up to an influencer last November who teaches marketing but in the week of her launch she was sending me 3 mails per day! Some people discussed this influencer's method in a Facebook group about marketing and when I said it was WAY TOO MUCH, someone commented I must be jealous because said influencer's launch made $500 000k. Mmmm. Others felt similarly to me - that it just doesn't feel good to mail the hell out of people! It's a privilege if someone trusts you with their email address, don't abuse it.
I'm figuring out how to approach my own marketing, knowing that quite frankly I sometimes need 5 nudges before I remember to sign up for a programme or webinar. I read mails fast and often on my phone and intend to go back and forget.
It has been pretty confusing to work out who I should contact again and who does/doesn't want to hear more. Even my tech coach didn't have an answer to my tagging dilemma.
So last Friday I excluded YOU from the mail I sent out. But then I thought "it's weird to exclude the exact people who have indicated interest" because maybe they clicked both buttons by accident.
I made some decisions:
- I'll ask those people again directly
- I'll risk annoying them. Will they really get annoyed and does it matter that much if one person thinks I'm a douchebag?
I thought about how I teach THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF CONFLICT in this Create Your Path programme. Yet here I am making up a story about who is or isn't interested in my offerings and I'm worrying I might be pissing people off...all this for what?! And I thought about how that's what happens in all conflict: we make up stories and get stuck in our head about what things mean. Often a lawyer's job is to unravel some of that for the client.
Or it could be, if the lawyer saw his or her role that way. How do YOU see your role as a lawyer?
Here's a 2 minute video I made for you, that you missed last week.
And you can find out all the course details on www.awakeninglawyers.com
If you would like to be EXCLUDED FROM MORE MAILS ABOUT THIS COURSE click here. Otherwise please don't click it!
My mission is to raise the consciousness of the legal profession.
A lot of people don’t understand my mission (I'm not sure my own family do!) but I know it's what I am here to do.
And it doesn't mean I go around trying to wake people up - I'm not that presumptuous! I just provide the support for those who are already awakening. It can be pretty lonely, and hard. Often I've helped lawyers find ways to practise law that feel better to them, so they don't quit the profession. It would be sad if all the lawyers who opened their hearts and minds quit the law because they felt they just couldn't do it anymore.
I want to know what it is YOU ARE HERE TO DO as a lawyer. Do you know? Are you doing it?
There are millions of lawyers who accept the status quo of the profession we were handed. A profession which is often:
elitist
patriarchal
racist
sexist
dysfunctional
But it can be different if we dare to practise law differently.
But that takes courage.
And it takes a supportive community.
That's what CREATE YOUR PATH AS AN AWAKENING LAWYER is about
and because of the great feedback, I am running it a second time.
“I was confused and I was hopeless. I felt the doors were closing in front of me. I couldn’t see my way. 5 weeks later my mind is clear about what I want to do. I am hopeful. I appreciate the people I have met through you and the course. I hope this is not the end!” ~ Johannesburg lawyer in the public sector
In my experience, lawyers usually awaken when they have a personal crisis or challenge and they start to question the lack of alignment between their values, and the values of the legal system they practise in. They question the role of lawyers in society and want to humanise the system.
One thing seems to be shared by all awakening lawyers at a certain point in their growth - they realise that conflict is a powerful tool for transformation and that lawyering can be sacred work. But that may come in time.
There are things you can do NOW to shift how you show up as a lawyer.
If you want to find ways to practise law in alignment with who you are NOW - not who you started out as when your first entered practice and be part of the solution to the systemic collapse of all our systems, including the legal one,
The world needs lawyers who have woken up and who are doing what they came here to do.
If you're not interested in anything to do with being an awakening lawyer - please can I ask you
a) to forward this to a colleague who may be. There are soooooo many lawyers who are looking for new ways to practise - give them the gift of saying "I see you. Maybe this could help."
and then
b) please scroll to the bottom of this email, and click UNSUBSCRIBE. Thank you for your honesty, and I wish you a bright and brilliant future xxx. You won't hear from me again.
Warmly,
Amanda Lamond
