Shine your light so clients can find you! Hello {{first_name}},

Jan 10, 2022

Hello {{first_name}},

Who are your ideal clients?

Sometimes I wonder if there is any point in writing these updates. That's on days when I feel down about my business. But then I hear back from lawyers who tell me things like, they have printed the email to put on their notice board. Well that made me feel good! Or, those who wrote to tell me to keep writing even though they've never signed up for any of my programmes, they find what I write very meaningful. Today I got such a delightful email from a lawyer I haven't yet spoken to, on the other side of the world and we've found all sorts of connection points, which connect to what I said in the update.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I had to be encouraged and supported

  1. to show up as my full self, ALL OF ME and not worry about polarizing people
  2. to show up CONSISTENTLY - which is 2 to 3 times a week for me right now.

This is what is drawing "my people" to me.

And I want you to be able to draw your dream clients to you too. The people who think they way you show up as a lawyer is AMAZING and WONDERFUL and they will send flowers or chocolates to your home in thanks, and refer you to all their friends. A lawyer from my past used to say "I don't want clients, I want raving fans".

I know marketing can feel uurrrrgh. I know some lawyers don't know where to start.

But you think about marketing as just shining your light brightly so that those who are meant to work with you can find you.

If your website looks the same as every other firms, how will they know YOU ARE YOU?

If your profile photo looks like everyone else's, how will they know HOW DIFFERENT YOU ARE?

If your Linked In Bio is as boring as everyone else's how will they know YOU STARTED AN ABUSED CHILD HOME ON THE SIDE AND HAVE PROVIDED REFUGE FOR 150 CHILDREN TO DATE. Or that YOU ARE A MOUNTAINBIKING CHAMPION as well as a lawyer and actually you'd like to organise a ride for all your local clients that ride.

There are people out there WAITING FOR YOU TO SHOW UP.

I can help you but here are some ideas:

  • write down who your ideal clients would be.
  • write every day how they are finding you (it's called Writing Your Reality - it's so cool - it WORKS. Ask me more)
  • re-write your Linked In Profile. Show that you are an integrated human being with more than a law degree to your name
  • re-write your bio on your website and find clearer ways to share WHO you help with law, and WHY you do it
  • create a newsletter, doesn't have to be a big deal or a long one

There is more than enough business.

Your people can find you.

But you have to show up for them.

Right, I'm off to a new personal trainer. A kid in my kid's class asked if I was his granny last week. Time to kick ass! It could also be I'm just older than some of the other moms...At least my kid is not at a school where all the 40 year olds are so botoxed and spend ALL DAY doing yoga so they look like they're 20. My husband says I have "the body of an athlete waiting to happen". I finally see this as a compliment! Today my kid said "the reason you can't run as fast as me if that you work all the time so you don't have time to run around. I go to school and I run all day." He is so right. The wisdom of 5 year olds!

I am creating a GIFT FOR YOU!

It's called The Lawyers' Great Awakening, it's a beautiful mini book. Please let me know if this interests you. Just drop me a line - and tell me why you're interested. Or why you read these mails!

Bye!

And as I said yesterday, keep dreaming of a better life for yourself and for ALL of us. And when you feel called, let's start making the changes the world is calling us to make. For many of us, that means healing the legal profession, one lawyer at a time.

Love always
